Memet Fuat Publishing Award 2010

Well-known poet Turgay Fişekçi takes a look at urban and rural life through the eyes of two boys raised in vastly differing environments. He reminds his readers of life styles that glorify nature, the human beings and all the living things as opposed to the escalating consumption based life styles of recent years.

Overview

Although Kerem grew up in the city and his new classmate Hasan comes from a rural background, they get along very well. When Kerem is given permission to go to the village house that Hasan and his family remember with longing, the excitement of the trip affects both boys. The meeting of an urban boy used to consumption with rural life based on production is full of surprises. This short vacation will make a lasting impression on Kerem…  

Turgay Fişekçi

Turgay Fişekçi, a poet, writer and editor, was born in Balıkesir in 1956. He graduated from Law Faculty of İstanbul University. His first poem was published in 1977 and after 1978, he began to work as an editor. Many of his poems were composed as songs and he also wrote song lyrics. Between 1996-2013, he wrote his reviews in his column named “Defne Gölgesi” at Cumhuriyet newspaper. And in 2019, he began to work as the editor in chief of the weekly literary magazine “Cumhuriyet Kitap”. With his poems, Fişekçi writes travel reviews too.
