In his first novel for young adults, Behçet Çelik, who’s with his stories and compilations, considered as an important representative of contemporary Turkish literature , tells about the ups and downs in the friendship of Emre who expresses himself with music and Engin who can best express his feeling through writing. The novel, which is the 11th book of the “Bridge Books” special collection, uses a lyrical language to express the variable moods of youngsters. Çelik deals with major every day issues such as exam stress, lack of communication within the family, incompatibility; with refined courage.

Overview

When he could not pass the entrance exams of a special high school, Emre enrolls to an ordinary high school close to their home. In the first days of school, he defends a boy that all others make fun of and earns a few enemies and just one friend. As their friendship develops, they tell each other about their love affairs, dreams and hopes. Emre who continues to be quiet both at home and at school despite his friend’s efforts, is still a “visiting student” for his classmates although months have gone by. The news that his family gives him as the school year comes to a close, causes a big change in Emre… 

Behçet Çelik

He was born in Adana in 1968. He was graduated from Law Faculty of İstanbul University in 1990. His first story was published in literary magazine Varlık in 1987 when he was 19 years old. After that his stories, essays and translation studies took their places in many newspapers and literary magazines like Notos. In 1989, he received Story Success Award of Akademi Kitabevi. He wrote many stories and received Sait Faik Story Award with his book named Gün Ortasında Arzu in 2008.
