IBBY Turkey - Best Children's Story Book of the Year 2011 - Jury Special Award

In her second book for children İrem Uşar, who conquered the hearths of her child readers with her first children’s novel Fener’den Taşınan Işık, narrates the memories of her colourful family members in an equally colour language.

Overview

The book includes 13 amusing memories mostly evolving around “funny granddad” Ahmet Bey. All the memories are witnessing the sense of humour, urban culture and human relations of the past times referred to with nostalgia in current days.

The author known for her warm and simple style deals mainly with themes such as intergeneration relations, family bonds and joy of life.

İrem Uşar

She was born in İstanbul, in 1975. After graduating from the Radio, Television, Cinema department of Marmara University, she worked as a reporter, editor and script writer. In 2010, she participated in a writing workshop in Antwerp, with the invitation of PEN, and she wrote her first children’s book The Light That Moved from the Light House (Fenerden Taşınan Işık) published by Günışığı Kitaplığı in 2011. The book was a part of a special project coordinated by Günışığı for Sivrice Light House near Assos, Turkey.
