Ismet Bertan who is known for his unique novels depicting ancient Anatolian civilizations is using his incredible power of observation and his cinematographic language to invite his younger readers to the world of animals living in the streets. The story is about those animals bought without thinking and then thrown out to the streets all of a sudden like an old decorative object. The life struggle of these animals left out in the streets is being recounted from their point of view. The novel that dwells upon the friendship among three different animals with different characteristics and looks, promises an interesting reading experience on animal rights, love and solidarity.

Overview

Hödük (Gawky), moves from the animal farm to a bird seller’s shop and then to the home of a family as ther new puppy. However, his stay at home does not last long and he finds himself back in the street when the family looses interest in him. While roaming the streets full of dangers, he meets Güdük (Stumpy) the lap dog and Bıdık (Bitty) the yellow kitten. Güdük was also thrown out of his home while Bıdık, who doesn’t know that her mother was run-over by a car is looking for her everywhere. Will the threesome who join paws in the arduous conditions of the streets be able to shake off the Black Dog gang that is after them?

İsmet Bertan

He was born in 1959, in a little village named Piyadeler in Alaşehir, Manisa. After graduating from Erzurum Atatürk University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature, he worked as a teacher for a couple of years. Then he moved to İzmir and worked as a documentary program producer and director at TRT (Turkish Radio Television) for many years. His first children’s novel Speedy Tosbi (Hızlı Tosbi, 2005) was published simultaneously with its picture book (in “Colour Your First Book” series) for younger readers Little Tosbi Looks for His House (Minik Tosbi Evini Arıyor, 2005).
