This journey, started with I’m Good For Me, Too, winner of the Dünya Kitap 2015 Best Collection Award, continues with the new book Secret Lovers Society. This exclusive collection of stories is a selection of 24 funny, sad, weird and even surreal short stories and is about the wound as well as the cure.
Overview
Two things keep us alive: satiety and fervency. I grounded my survival on these. And their roots were going back to two old men. I’m calling them old but as I grew older myself, I’ve come to realize that the state of being old is just a phase.
When I was younger, I was thinking everyone including myself was old: My grandfather, my grandmother, artichokes, cats, stars, nice weather and cruel cold weather were all old for me. Then I noticed one day that even mothers and fathers were once young.
Death was supposed to come later in life. But in our house, it was within everyone’s grasp.
Ahmet Büke
Ahmet Büke was born in Manisa in 1970. He studied Economics and Administrative Sciences in Dokuz Eylül University. He received 2008 Oğuz Atay Story Award with his book Alnı Mavide (2008) and 2011 Sait Faik Story Award with his book Kumru’nun Gördüğü (2010). Büke’s stories were published in several literary magazines and they’re reminding us that the life is going by with many bitter sweet, weird and strange details. Büke became widely known with his story books İzmir Postası’nın Adamları (2004), Çiğdem Külahı (2006), Ekmek ve Zeytin (2011), Cazibe İstasyonu (2012) and Yüklük (2014).
