He was nineteen and had broken his ties with people. He neither wanted to meet them nor bump into them. Rather than talk and be misunderstood, he preferred the safe rhythm of writing. He closed his door but opened his heart. This is how he started writing letters. For days, weeks, months… And finally, he was caught by someone he never expected!..

This novel by İrem Uşar liked for her books which reflect her power of observation and first published in 2008 is now at ON8 in its recently reedited version. Me, Witchgrass rambles quietly between the world of reality and fantasy and witnesses the flux and reflux in a special period in the life of a young man who wants to hide and reach up, become indistinct and distinct. Different and special spaces play host to the novel which solves the complex moods and internal judgements of people skillfully. İrem Uşar, the author of award winning children’s fiction, embraces readers of all ages with her sincere and young style.

I will dress and leave home. I will come in front of an apartment building, stop, first look at its name, then at the doorbells. I will like one of the names on the bells, I will write the name of the street, the apartment and the flat right then and there. Then I will move away immediately. I will go to the post office and ask the Chief – the chief of the post office is an old friend, a long story – to post my letter.

A platonic letter! That’s what I’ll do.
