Turgay Fişekçi, a poet, writer and editor, was born in Balıkesir in 1956. He graduated from Law Faculty of İstanbul University. His first poem was published in 1977 and after 1978, he began to work as an editor. Many of his poems were composed as songs and he also wrote song lyrics. Between 1996-2013, he wrote his reviews in his column named “Defne Gölgesi” at Cumhuriyet newspaper. And in 2019, he began to work as the editor in chief of the weekly literary magazine “Cumhuriyet Kitap”. With his poems, Fişekçi writes travel reviews too. He publishes a literary magazine named “Sözcükler” since 2006, March. He also works as secretary-general of Nâzım Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation. In years, he received many awards with his poems and novels, in 1981 Akademi Kitabevi Poetry Award, in 1999 Behçet Necatigil Poetry Award, in 2003 Ceyhun Atuf Kansu Poetry Award, in 2005 İnkılâp Kitabevi Novel Award, in 2013 Melih Cevdet Anday Poetry Award. And he wrote his first children’s novel for Günışığı Kitaplığı’s award winner “Bridge Books” collection; in his book Green Vacation (Yeşil Tatil, 2010) he told the story of a surprising vacation taken by two boys who are best friends. As a poet, Fişekçi recently received 2017 Dağlarca Poetry Award. He lives in İstanbul.
